The global strategies on Human Resources for Health seek to ensure equitable distribution of health workers that possess the required competency and motivation to deliver quality care. These strategies include mutual collaboration between countries to build a competent global health workforce.

NHS Health Education England  through Uganda UK Health Alliance works with Ministry of Health, Uganda to support professional exchange schemes between the UK and Uganda. The support involves coordination and support to Uganda UK partnerships that undertake short and long term professional health volunteer placements, faculty exchange, global placements of researchers and technical personnel among others. The professional health volunteers include both clinical and non-clinical personnel in the health sector.

To complete the cycle, Ugandan health workforce are supported through “a learn and return” model for placements in the UK.

Ministry of Health, Uganda through the Uganda UK Health Alliance provides immigration and professional clearance support to UK professional volunteers on placement in Uganda.

Professional exchange during the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Alliance recognises the disruption in the activities of member organisations including international travels. This continues to affect and halt the current models of professional exchange.

The Alliance is working with member organisations to develop new approaches that can address the gap created by the current situation.
