The UUKHA Talk is the brand name for the monthly UUKHA webinars.  In the bid to foster shared learning, joint working and co-development, we hold monthly webinars where selected individuals from the various UUKHA member organisations/institutions share experiences, expertise and knowledge on selected themes in Global Health.

Each webinar session runs for only one hour with an online mean attendance of 40 participants. Mobilisation of participants is through the Community of practice, website and social media announcements

The first webinar in July was organized in collaboration with THET. The webinar was delivered by Marcus Wooton, from the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) under the theme “The lessons from implementing a pediatric teaching and support program in district hospitals in Myanmar. The participants from various institutions in both Uganda and UK shared ideas on how to improve peadiatrics in their respective facilities.

Dr. Ian Spillman Medical Superintendent Kisiizi Hospital presented in August on, “From Theory to Real World Practice-Implementing Healthcare Quality Improvements: A multi-faceted Approach from Kisiizi Hospital Uganda”. The talk demonstrated high quality healthcare in a resource limited setting

Judith Strobl, the academic coordinator People Uni presented jointly with Alumni of People’s Uni on the topic “Online Public Health knowledge to support health professionals in Africa”. The presentation demonstrated how online learning can build public health capacity in Low and Middle Income countries

In October Joy Kemp from the Royal College of Midwives together with the president Uganda Private Midwives Association presented on “Developing a model of mentorship for Ugandan midwifery through action research: the MOMENTUM project 2015-2017”.

As months go by, the Talks are becoming more interesting and attracting more numbers. For example last month Dr. Grace Edwards, a Professor of Midwifery Aga Khan University Uganda Campus displayed the presentation to an ongoing class of about 20 midwives in training who listened and asked questions.

Videos for each Talk are shared on YouTube and reports on the webinars are produced by the secretariat.

We are looking forward to our subsequent talks which shall be presented by our respective consortia of organisations. Specific participants in a given consortium will be contacted to participate in a particular month’s webinar to give them an opportunity to share ideas on how to work together to promote the agenda of that consortium
