Virtual Simulated Placement to support the leadership development of nurses globally 

Who are the learners?

Early-career nurses from Ireland & the US & early-career nurses and midwives from Uganda.

Indicative learning hours

20 hours to include approximately 1 hour per week from September 2022 – January 2023 to include

  • Onboarding
  • 2 collaborative scenarios
  • 2 scenarios bespoke to partner site Self-directed reading

  • Reflect on your behaviours, emotions, and values and how you relate to

Advocacy:

  • Explore and develop the skills and techniques necessary to advocate for your patients, your team, and your

Effective Communication:

  • Develop your communication skills whatever your role or level of authority, responsibility, or accountability in the healthcare

Skilled Decision Making:

– Identify the principals involved in decision making and support you to develop the skills and techniques necessary to make informed decisions considering your role, level of authority, responsibilities, and accountability in the healthcare setting.

Collaborative Teamwork:

  • Identify the principals involved in team working and support you to develop the skills and behaviours necessary for effective

Support Quality and Safety in the Work Environment:

  • Develop the knowledge and skills required to promote and maintain a culture of quality and safety in your

Digital Literacy:

  • Utilise digital platforms to direct, implement and share learning in line with own continued professional development plan and learning

Learning Outcomes

 Upon completion of the virtual simulated placement the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the importance of self-care, professional values, and reflection to support leadership and professional
  2. Examine the impact of effective communication and collaborative teamwork with patients, families, carers and within nursing/midwifery and multidisciplinary teams and
  3. Discuss the benefits of critical thinking and decision-making skills in nursing & /or
  4. Critically appraise the leadership skills required in nursing & /or midwifery to support quality and safety of care for children and their families/carers.
  5. Use various digital platforms to develop own learning and collaborate/network with international colleagues to share
